Katherine Fehr - Resident

Mrs. Katherine Fehr’s dignified smile lights up the rainy gray morning room.  Sitting quietly listening to her radio, her room is certainly her own, filled with family photos and knick-knacks.  A silhouette drawing on the wall, from a recent crafting activity, features her dignified stature.

Her daughter, an employee of Salem Home pops in every so often just to say "Hello", but she disappears quickly.  Mrs. Fehr says she doesn’t want to get any special treatment.

The staff at Salem Home strive to give Mrs. Fehr as much independence as possible.  “I’m kind of independent, but when I need help they are ready to help.  It feels good to be in a home like this.  Its not my real home, but this is home,” she said.

The transition to a new surrounding is almost always stressful, but at Salem, Mrs. Fehr feels like the staff did everything to make it a smooth one. “You’re not alone here.  I was all alone there [in the hospital]. Here there is always someone around.  I prefer my home better, but this is next to it,” she said.  “I prefer this place.”
