Forgivable Loan Program

The Salem Foundation proudly offers a forgivable loan to employees who wish to pursue a nursing career, and are enrolled in an accredited LPN, RN, or RPN program. Eligible receipients receive up to $4,000 depending on the course enrolled in, and must sign a "Return to Work" agreement with Salem Home. Upon graduation, the recipient is required to provide professional nursing services at Salem Home for a designated period of time.

Criteria for Application:

Applicant must:

  • Be in a permanent position
  • Be in good standing with the organization
  • Have worked at Salem Home for a minimum of two years
  • Embrace the Mission and Vision of Salem Home
  • Demonstrate Relationship Centered Care
  • Be recommended by Resident Care Manager

 

How to apply:

Please send the following in writing or by email:

  • Letter of request
  • High school and/or post secondary transcripts
  • Transcripts of marks obtained quarterly while enrolled in nursing
  • List of previous work experience
  • Three references – two character, one work related

 

A screening process for the forgivable loan includes:

  • Criminal record check
  • Reference checks

Resident Care Attendant Program

Get hired with Salem Home’s in house RCA training program. This is an excellent way to explore your opportunities in the health care field while also boosting your wages.

To apply, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have completed grade 10 or GED equivalent
  • English competency of Benchmark Level 7 or greater
  • Desire a care-giving role
  • Be available to work a variety of shifts and alternate weekends

Course Details

Part 1 – approximately one month

  • Cost is $500, subject to change
  • Five days of class time
  • 11 – 16 practicum shifts
  • First shift is with an instructor
  • Evaluation
  • Exam
  • 70% or better required to pass
  • Eligible applicants are hired as a casual “Untrained” RCA at $16.081/hour
  • Applicants may also apply for non-permanent term positions

Part 2 – approximately four months to complete

  • Cost is $60 per module, subject to change
  • Four modules include:
  • Cognitive Impairment – 3 days
  • Circulatory and Respiratory Impairment – 3 days
  • Gastrointestinal and Urinary Impairment – 3 days
  • End of Life Care – 3 days
  • Must complete within two years of successful completion of Part 1 of the RCA Program
  • Upon completion you will be hired as an RCA at Salem Home at $16.564/hour
  • Wages increase to $19.202/hour after working the equivalent of five full-time years
